Description:
Chazara briseis, the hermit, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Nymphalidae.
Very well camouflaged. When settled in the shade of a shrub or grasses they appear to melt away becoming very difficult to see in the dappled light despite their size. Equally hard to pick up when sitting on hot rocks in full sun.
The white bands on the upperside create a distinctive V shape when in flight.
Habitat:
Hillside, large calcareous grasslands that are grazed intensively and open scree or rocky outcrops and stony slopes between 1,100 - 1,600 mtrs. This species was seen on a thistle patch by a mountain stream
