Field Notes

Description:

Introduced Hover fly species to New Zealand from Europe. Spotted this one sitting on a daylily leaf in the sun at 3.45pm after it had finished foraging for pollen and nectar of a dahlia flower. It looks like and mimics a bee in behaviour but unlike bees does not have a pollen sac.
