Field Notes

Description:

A 3 striped, orange/gold colored hoverfly, feeding on pollen.

Habitat:

Adjacent to a small stream. Altitude 1000m.

Notes:

I get a lot of this type of fly, but have never looked closely before. Now I realize that I have a folder full of different species. This is one I photographed in detail today. I will be photographing more species in future.

Quality ID references beyond genus level I suspect will be a problem.

I use a Nikon D7000 with a Sigma 105mm macro with vibration reduction, all mounted on a monopod. Dave
