Field Notes

Description:

Female. A widespread and frequent, medium-sized hoverfly with slanted markings on the tergites plus two pronounced grey stripes on the thoracic dorsum behind the head. Two generations are produced and spring specimens are darker than summer ones, with the bands on tergites 3 and 4. It can occur in a variety of habitats and is especially fond of umbellifer flowers. The larvae are aphidophagous in trees and shrubs.
