Description:

Beautiful bee/fly? on yarrow flower

Habitat:

subalpine on Blackwall Peak, Manning Park, BC, Northern Cascades mountain range. Roadside yarrow & thistles.

Kathleen - I must admit to not knowing flies well enough to give very positive statements on identification (I'm a small wasp guy). I suspect that this is in the genus Eristalis - hopefully some of the NA entos will pitch in.
Thanks again John La Salle! if you know which exact species it is, I would love to know!! the poster in the link is very beautiful and some of them seem close to mine but not exact.
