A popular ornamental plant native to Japan. Medium-sized leaves with serrated edges. "The inflorescence of Hydrangea macrophylla is a corymb, with all flowers places in a plane or a hemisphere or even a whole sphere in cultivated forms."

Thanks Gerardo, Great info, ceherzog! These are growing very near a grove of Loblolly Pines.
I guess you have acidic soil...the plant works like litmus paper...if the soil is alkaline the flowers would be pink.
