Iris
Dietes iridioides
-26.7845, 153.135
Field Notes
Description:
This type of iris has white flowers marked with yellow and violet, with six free tepals that are not joined into a tube at their bases. There is also the Dietes Grandiflora which looks similar to this - I couldn't tell the difference.
Habitat:
They are common in the garden in eastern Australia. These flowers last only one day, shame as they are really pretty!
Notes:
We were lucky that this one was starting to open as we walked past it. We stayed to watch and it literally 'popped' open as we watched. A fantastic opportunity for Connor to see! It didn't take long which was kind of lucky as patients isn't a virtue for a 9 year old boy!
