Description:

This largest member of the Estrildid family has gray upperparts and breast, brown-gray to pink belly, and white under tail coverts. It has a black head with a large white cheek patch, narrow red eye ring, thick conical pink bill, black tail and pink legs and feet. It mostly feeds on rice; also eats small seeds and insects. Fast flight on rapidly beating wings. Sexes are similar.
