Field Notes
Description:
With their grey bodies, white-cheeked black head, red eye-ring, pink feet and thick red bill, I have overheard these birds mistaken for puffins multiple times. As interesting as these birds are, they are considered pests in Hawaii, they are numerous in several parts of Hawaii and feed on rice and other seeds. Ironically, they are less common in their native range and are considered vulnerable status.
