Field Notes

Description:

Orange sailor type butterfly.

Habitat:

Adjacent to a small stream. Altitude 1000m.

Notes:

This is only the second time I have spotted this distinctive butterfly in 18 months of daily safaris. The first specimen was damaged, with its rear end missing, but today’s specimen was perfect.

I must note that this is currently wet season, an important factor when identifying this type of butterfly.

Wikipedia has the jester under Symbrenthia lilaea.

The image on wikipedia looks incorrect to me.

They are extremely close, you can decide.

Update - changed name to Symbrenthia lilaea javanus, as I found a female that matches the motyli link:
