Description:
Sometimes commonly called the Dogtooth violet, Katakuri is a native wild lily and spring ephemeral blooming in early spring in woodlands in Japan. The bulbs were previously used as a popular cooking starch in Japan. Seeds contain a substance that is pleasing to ants, so they rely on ants for dispersal, being carried to ant nests where they germinate and then spend 7-8 years before blooming.
