Field Notes

Description:

Kea (Nestor notabilis) - Adult female

A bird captured during the Kea Conservation Trust Summer Survey 2011 up in the Walker Pass, Hawdon Valley, Arthur's Pass. Video of this bird linked to show some of the calls that the Kea makes. A delightful sound in my opinion. We observed this bird in courtship behaviour with an adult male.

Habitat:

Alpine/sub-alpine scree/scrub etc.

Notes:

The wonderful Kea, the Alpine Parrot of New Zealand. The photo and video were taken at the top of the Walker Pass, Hawdon Valley, Arthur's Pass during the Kea Conservation Trust's 2011 Summer population Survey. For more information on the Kea population surveys, check out www.keaconservation.co.nz
