Field Notes

Notes:

Possibly a mated pair of Killdeer, seeming to be in search for a nest site among the rocks of the shore. The second photo shows one of the birds checking the sky for predators. Good thing, there were a lot of eagles around!

ah, now this one I am familiar with. They remind me of prisoner's when viewed from the front due to the stripes
The Killdeer is often the first migrant I hear calling in the evening around our place. Sometimes they call well into the night during breeding season. They will nest on the ground between the rows of blueberry bushes and the young are so well camouflaged against the grass and sawdust.
