Field Notes

Description:

Very tiny shiny black fly about 3 mm in length. I think it is a Lance Fly of the Family Lonchaeidae. The larvae are usually phytophagous, feeding on decaying vegetation.

Habitat:

Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.
