aaa, I think this leaf damage is not from leafcutter ants, but from Leaf cutter bees (Megachilidae). Bee damage is very regular, always with the same size: circles or ovals, in contrast ant damage is most of the time irregular http://buginfo.com/article.cfm?id=103 http://www.richard-seaman.com/Insects/CostaRica/LeafcutterAnts/LeafcutterAntWorkersCuttingALeaf.jpg.
Absolutely Karen! I have some photos & video of them carrying the pieces of leaf which I will add later.
Maybe some leaf-cutter ants have been at work?
