Field Notes

Description:

Coreidae; Coreinae; Homoeocerini; Homoeocerus puncticornis Burmeister, 1834. According to https://www.ibiol.ro/zoology/RJB-Z-66/pd........ this is the Type Species of the Genus Homoeocerus. I used to confuse this bug with Homoeocerus marginellus (Herrich-Schäffer, 1840) which is very similar. The main difference is the two black marks on the dorsum. In H. marginellus, they look like dots, whereas on H. puncticornis they look more like short black lines. If you look closely at the female (the bigger one), you will notice that she has lost leg #3 on her right side.

Habitat:

Spotted in our backyard on an unidentified climbing vine.

Notes:

These Leaf-footed Bugs are survivors of Super Typhoon Pepito (international name Man - Yi).
