Field Notes

Description:

This is Homoeocerus puncticornis (Burmeister, 1835). According to Wikipedia, the genus Homoeocerus is distributed throughout "south and east Asia". However, that description might be considered rather ambiguous as the Philippines is in "Southeast Asia", which is (arguably) not exactly the same as "south and east Asia'. However, there is a scientific paper called "Taxonomy of Coreinae (Heteroptera; Coreidae) Fauna from Gorumara National Park and Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary of Dooars, West Bengal, India by Somnath Dahli and Nilay Ray." This paper can be read without being downloaded. On Page 10,  Homoeocerus puncticornis is documented as present in the Indo-Malay Region which unequivocally includes the Philippines. On the same page, it is mentioned that H. puncticornis is the Type Species of the genus Homoeocerus.

Habitat:

This Leaf-footed Bug was spotted, in our backyard vegetable plot, on Long Pepper (Capsicum annuum var. longum). The plant identification is from:
