Leaf Gall

A bright red Leaf Gall which looks like striking red lips or a heart. It was about 1 cm in diameter. Leaf Galls are caused by many species of insect larvae from as diverse Orders as the Diptera, Hymenoptera, Lepidoptera and Coleoptera. It would be so interesting to know what is causing the bright red coloring of this gall. The half of the leaf on which the galls occur has completely died. These galls were found on the upper sides of the leaves.
