Field Notes

Description:

Scarlet Green leafhopper
8-9mm (1/8 - 1-4in)

Habitat:

Have 2 broods a year. Eat sap from weedy vines and cultivated shrubs, plants such as roses and rhododendrons. Egg-laying and larval stages can cause misshapen leaves in spring.

Notes:

Now that our sunflowers are starting to shoot up since it's hot, the bugs are finding them useful places for hiding, hunting, and safety.

What a beautiful first spotting! Welcome to Project Noah
WOW!!! That leafhopper is so brightly colored I would have expected it to come from somewhere tropical, not our own U.S. Great macro shot.
