Field Notes

Description:

A large grazing tortoise of Southern Africa that lives from between 80 and 100 years

Habitat:

chobe park

Notes:

This is a fairly young tortoise. The species as a whole was quite in evidence throughout the parks we visited as it was the start off the rainy season and grass was growing quite well. Every one we saw started out on the road and hightailed it to the grass, as is typical of turtle spottings most everywhere
