Description:

Black fly with red, muscular-looking legs.

Habitat:

Landed on my daughters sweater while we were walking along a stream at Palomar Mountain about 5,300 feet in elevation. There were Oak and mixed evergreen trees in this forest. These are found from "Canada to extreme northern Mexico" - BugGuide

Notes:
