Maypop
Passiflora incarnata
34.4616, -84.4323
Field Notes
Description:
Maypop fruit in autumn. Long vines have beautiful ornate purple flowers, then large green fruit.
Habitat:
Sunny hillside.
Notes:
Fruit tastes sharp and slightly citrusy, with several encased seeds like a pomegranate. Tasty on its own if you don't mind the tartness, also good for jellies. There is some research that indicates potential uses in treating anxiety and addiction.
