Field Notes

Description:

The body of this planthopper of the Derbidae family, is around 5mm long, with very long forewings, giving the insect a wingspan of around 4cm. Main colour is white, with a beige patch behind the head and big dark red eyes; the wings are semi-translucent, of a very light blue with a 'hairy fringe on hindwings.

Habitat:

These were plentiful at night, gathering on trees in the rainforest on the Osa peninsula, bordering the Corcovado NP.
