Mullein
Verbascum thapsus
36.9742, -90.787
Field Notes
Description:
We won't know until the stalk comes up but I'm fairly sure this is just common mullein.
Habitat:
Poor soils; sandpits; gravel pits; roadsides
Notes:
The flowers of this weed/herb can be infused in oil which can be used for ear drops or as a salve for wounds, hemorrhoids, eczema, or inflamed eyelids. For ear drops, lots of people combine it with garlic infused oil.
The leaves can be used in an infusion for chronic coughs and throat inflammations. It also promotes sweating. Gargle or drink.
If I can gather enough flowers, I'm going to make some infused oil and also a homemade cough syrup. I'll post recipes and reviews when that happens.
