Description:
It is a sessile organism with a thin, very fragile, triangular and elongated shell. The valves are symmetrical, without teeth and transparent at the ends, normally covered with large and protruding scales that remain in adult specimens. The color of this mollusk is usually almost red brown. The interior of the clam is shiny and has a scar from the modified foot. It presents a series of very small septa at the end of the shell that are used to oxygenate the gills through the circulation of water.
Habitat:
It was found on a hard substrate near the coast, on a sandy coastline with small areas of rocks and posidonia (spectacular). Pinna rudis remains vertical on the substrate thanks to filaments called byssus that attach to the sediment on the surface. It lives fixed and a third of the shell is submerged below the substrate. It is found in the warmer areas of the Mediterranean Sea
