Field Notes

Description:

This attractive little bee was about 10 mm long. It had a black head and thorax. The abdomen was a reddish-orange with a well-rounded dorsal sclerites. The legs had tibiae that were covered with dense, fine, down-pointing setae presumably for pollen collection. Antennae were black and short.

Habitat:

Spotted on broom tea-tree ( Leptospermum scoparium) and other flowering plants in the area.
