Field Notes

Description:

Attractive toad with proportionately short limbs and rather flattened body. Upper body usually uniformly olive-brown or sandy with conspicuous warts and diagnostic yellow dorsal stripe; underside greyish. Walks rather than hops from danger. Eye golden coloured with horizontal pupil.

Habitat:

Favours shallow, often brackish or seasonally dry pools for breeding. Otherwise found in rather dry habitats; burrows well in loose soil. Occurs Iberia and SW France.
