Field Notes

Description:

A young plant of about 1m displaying a bright green you don't see in the older specimen. The blossoms are very colorful, and also to be seen in pink and yellow colors.

Habitat:

This and many other varieties of the so called "nopales" are incredibly abundant through the Mexican highlands.

Notes:

The tender stems are edible and in fact quite common in the Mexican cuisine. So are the cactus figs.
