Field Notes

Description:

small, white underbellies with golden brown fur, with dark and light stripes. It is said they are shy but by my picture you can see they weren't. Probably due to this being a tourist stop.
Forest floor foragers. Berries and seeds and at times fungus.

Habitat:

meadows near forests in the mountain ranges along the Olympic Peninsula

Notes:

Spotted while up on Hurricane Ridge in Washington.
