It measured about 2.5" long

Habitat:

Tropical dry forest in NW Costa Rica 4 weeks into the rainy season.

I am in full agreement MJ. I think this is an owl fly. Thanks!
Also, I did some checking and there are some species of dragonfly that have antenna. There are also some species here in Costa Rica that are white. However, I haven't found a link for the combination of the two. I will look into the owl fly species for this area. Thanks!
Thanks Mj. I will keep checking it out. This is a link to an antlion adult I shot here a couple months back. This above spotting is the size of a dragonfly while the ant lion adult measured about half the size: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/8635452
