Field Notes

Description:

White-grey plumage. Looks white in flight. Neck is streaked. Yellow beak with a black tip. Reportedly, the colour of the legs change in the breeding season; turning bright yellow during the months of March to September.

Habitat:

Freshwater lake near my house.

Notes:

I did not see it as it sat on a Lagerstroemia tree right at the edge of the lake...suddenly it swooped smoothly and just as smoothly came back on the same spot with a fish in its beak. It must have seen the fish's shadow from above...because I saw on an un-rippled surface of the lake. It was just above me and I took these two shots (cropped before posting) but when I moved to a better position, it flew away.
