Painted Turtle

A relatively small turtle, found in many aquatic habitats with aquatic vegetation. They are fairly bright-colored, with yellow stripes on the head and chin, and red stripes on the neck, legs, and tail. They are primarily diurnal, and spend much time basking like many turtles. They eat a variety of plants and animals, including duckweed, algae, small invertebrates, fish, and small frogs. As with many turtles, the juveniles are more carnivorous than the adults. They are fairly abundant throughout their range.
