Description:
Small, lavender flowers growing in terminal clusters on purple stems with opposite, stalked leaves that have a distinct peppermint scent.
Habitat:
Growing along the edge of a pond that borders a mixed forest.
Notes:
Peppermint has many uses, and may be used to flavor teas, as a garnish, as a medicine, and for culinary purposes.

The genus name comes from Menthe, who was a water nymph in Greek mythology. In an act of revenge, Persephone transformed Menthe into a mint plant.
<br><br>
Peppermint was originally treated as a species, but is now known to be a cross between Mentha aquatica (Watermint) and Mentha spicata (Spearmint).
