Notes:

HUGE fungus! About 2-3 feet wide, 7-8 inches high. This was found on a locust tree.

Thanks for the info! Is there any way to preform those ID tests with household items?

Well, the basidiocarp looks good for P. rimosus... but cannot confirm until you see lot's of microscopic characteristics :-S In the lab I work (with gasteroid fungi) there's a guy who works with polypores, he has taught me a little about Phellinus... and saying the species without a look to the microscopic stuff is very very hard. I suggest to label it only to Genus :/ greetings to all! =)

@the.medallion.of.roderka: I was thinking this was either a Phellinus or a Ganoderma. I am thinking this is Phellinus rimosus because it grows on the locust tree this was growing on. Sorry @MaryEvans2, but It can't be a Ganoderma, all Ganodermatales are more flat and have shinny skin. This one is a Phellinus, but cannot say the species until you see how many types of hyphae it has, if it has spines, and the size, chemical reaction and ornamentation of the Spores.

Thanks Mary!! I was leaning towards ganoderma, but wasn't sure what type, many ganoderma species are very different. Do you have as guess of the specific species?
