Field Notes

Description:

Phytocoris Size: 5-8 mm. Numbers: 300 spp. in our area, ca. 700 spp. worldwide. Adult is dark gray to light brown, mottled with yellow, white, or dark brown spots. No median line of white hairs, lateral margins of pronotum not sharply ridged. Hind legs long: hind femora and tibiae about twice as long as mid & front femora and tibiae. Life Cycle: one generation per year; overwinters as egg.

Habitat:

Range: throughout NA and the world. Habitat: shrubs and trees in woodlands, parks, orchards. Season: nymphs from May to August; adults from July to September. Food: zoophytophagous

Notes:

One of the largest and most complex of NA mirid genera.
This porch light visitor was barely 1/4 of an inch. I had another spotting like this but I'm having a hard time with these.

Thank you, Ashish.... these bugs a so tiny, like a large gnat. Luis Vivas suggested a couple of weeks ago on my other spotting that I have above link to, Phytocoris sp. I'm confident that is correct but I am still having a hard time with ID'ing these.
Second picture is very neat... can be a Broad headed bug.
