Field Notes

Habitat:

These three Psyche were spotted in our backyard, fluttering around and alighting, momentarily, on just about every flower or leaf they could see. I was not able to ascertain which plants, if any, are their favourites.

Notes:

Pieridae; Pierinae; Leptosia nina georgi Fruhstorfer, 1910. According to Wikipedia and Philippine Lepidoptera, there are two Leptosia nina ssp. in the Philippines. They are L. n. georgi (the one shown here) and L. n. terentia. From what I can see in the gallery of Philippine Lepidoptera, both subspecies look very similar, but there should not be any confusion, when it comes to identification, because L. n. georgi is present only in northern Philippines and L. n. terentia is present only in southern Philippines. The two in the first photo appeared to be carrying out a kind of mating dance and I just got one lucky shot. The other was busy flying from one plant to another, perhaps trying to attract a mate.
