Field Notes

Description:

I think the butterflies were gathering salt from my dog's waste. They were so involved with the dog poop, I was able to get unusually close with my iPhone to take photos. When their wings are closed, they look like dried leaves. About 18 seconds into the video, the butterflies start opening their wings. There is also some sort of fly sharing dinner with them. I've never seen this particular fly before. It has an interesting behavior with its wings.

Habitat:

Near trees and open spaces.
