Description:

Difficult to be sure of species, as two very similar ones are both present in Sierra Leone - Agama agama and Agama africana. Presented here in male, with a typical appearance for it's many sister species throughout Africa - about 25-30 cm long, half of the length is in the tail. The body is flattened, dark grey to black, while the head and neck are typically orange. There is also a large orange ring around the base of the tail.

Habitat:

Seen in urban setting of Freetown, sunbathing on wooden fences bordering the popular town beach.
