Field Notes

Description:

There are high numbers of these cicadas on the floodplain of the Murray River at Yarrawonga. Not quite as loud as the greengrocers in the big city but they were making a great effort.

Notes:

These were mating on the ground and sufficiently distracted long enough for a photograph. The second photo was taken after one tried to fly away, landing in onto the back of the other. I do not think this second position is natural for mating.

Done, Maria. There are no cicadas there yet.
You could add this to the wild love mission: http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/9068518 and
Thank you Mark and Leuba. I was about ready to see a different species. The wings actually have a creamy reflection in the sunlight.
I agree- very good-looking. I love the names too. Great spotting Martin.
Good... more on the way. Very handsome cicadas.
