Field Notes

Description:

3 Redhead ducks (2 males, 1 female) among a large flock of Ring-necked Ducks.

Habitat:

Large pond with plenty of aquatic vegetation, a swampy area and streams with a bordering forest.

Notes:

The flock of Ring-necked Ducks has been hanging around this pond for the past couple of weeks. Today is the first day that the Redheads have joined them, as far as I can tell. I looked at the previous sets of pictures I took of the entire flock of Ring-necks and didn't see the Redheads in any of them. A small group of Hooded Mergansers joins the Ring-neck ducks from time to time as well.
