Field Notes

Description:

They lay their eggs on rocks in the middle of the river. They have extremely sharp beaks with which they attack predators. According to a fisherman, he saw them attack the eyes of a crocodile which got too close to the bird's eggs.

Habitat:

Found on a rock in the Cauvery River.

Notes:

Lovely series. You are really lucky to see this one so close.
The Terns generally leave this part of the river by early August. I was lucky to spot that one.
