Field Notes

Description:

This incredible little tree was growing from a vertical crack in a large boulder. Without access to water, it has sent out numerous roots at 360º to search for water. This plant if it succeeds in surviving, will begin the eventual destruction of this boulder.

Habitat:

Rocks and Boulders along the river, Chorreadero Park above Chiapa de Corzo, Chiapas, Mexico.

Good idea, Karen, I will go back once in a while and see what it is doing. I hope it survives.
What a wonderful observation. If you have the ability to do so, it would be sooooo cool to go back and photograph it at regular intervals (eg every 6 mos) to document the progress (or lack thereof.) A story in photographs!
