Field Notes

Description:

Sequoiadendron giganteum (giant sequoia, giant redwood, Sierra redwood, Sierran redwood, or Wellingtonia) is the sole living species in the genus Sequoiadendron, and one of three species of coniferous trees known as redwoods, classified in the family Cupressaceae in the subfamily Sequoioideae, together with Sequoia sempervirens (coast redwood) and Metasequoia glyptostroboides (dawn redwood). The common use of the name "sequoia" generally refers to Sequoiadendron, which occurs naturally only in groves on the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California.

Habitat:

Giant sequoia is usually found in a humid climate characterized by dry summers and snowy winters. Most giant sequoia groves are on granitic-based residual and alluvial soils. The elevation of the giant sequoia groves generally ranges from 1,400–2,000 metres (4,600–6,600 ft) in the north, and 1,700–2,150 metres (5,600–7,050 ft) to the south. Giant sequoia generally occurs on the south facing side of northern mountains, and on the northern face of more southern slopes.

Verdaderamente es un árbol espectacular. Me vine a estudiar a Valencia arq. técnica y después me quedé. ¿Y tú por California?
It's an impressive tree. Maybe you should turn the pics by 90° or something is wrong with my computer. :-)
Muchas gracias! Voy a ver si las encuentro y las corrijo. Y que te ha llevado a Valencia??
Hola Marco Antonio.
