Spear grass
Austrostipa rudis
-37.9091, 145.312
Field Notes
Description:
Huge numbers of 'Sweet Pittosporum' [trees endemic to 250 kms north-east but a rampant pest here] were removed from a local reserve last year. This year the area is dominated by a local endemic spear grass which is truly beautiful at the moment. 1.5 metres tall, purple seeds and a smooth silky movement is a breeze. Great success.
Habitat:
Local nature reserve.
