Field Notes

Description:

The genus Argiope includes rather large and spectacular spiders that often have a strikingly coloured abdomen. The very esialy visible pattern of branded silk mde by Argiope is purte white, and some species make an "X" shape, or a zigzag type of web. Like almost all spiders, Argiope are harmless to humans. They mostly eat insects, but are capable of consuming prey up to twice their size.

Habitat:

These spiders are distributed throughout the world.

Notes:

I found this spider in Tsukuba City, Japan. Although I was not able to focus with my camera on the spider, I thought it was pretty interesting to see a spider hanging next to its wrapped-up prey.
