Field Notes

Description:

A paper thin golden silk egg sac about 12 mm in diameter attached to thin tree branch. A few of these were seen on the tree. These probably start off as silky white fluff ( also seen on the tree) which is wrapped in a layer of brown silk.

Habitat:

Spotted on a eucalyptus tree in a rest area by Hume Hwy- Chowne.

Notes:

Possibly that of a garden spider which are orb weavers but the attachment to the branch in this case is wider than those of orb weavers which are suspended by narrow necks. <br> Would like help identifying this. Thanks.
