Field Notes

Description:

Tiny lavendar arthropods with ridges and six legs. They move very quickly when they move.

Habitat:

Massing on unfinished softwood lumber that was recently oxygen-bleached. Appearing in very wet weather in the 50's F.

Notes:

I posted a spotting of these a year ago almost to the day, and I haven't seen them in between times. They appear on the same deck, en masse. That lilac blur in the upper right is a springtail on the move, springing through the air (the photo was taken with a very slow shutter speed, about 2 seconds).
