Field Notes

Description:

I have absolutely no idea what these are. I pruned a Hibiscus mutabilis in the garden this morning and spotted these on some of the leaves of the pruned plant. What was also fascinating was when I got close with the camera they seemed to line themselves up with the veins in the leaves to avoid detection. Whatever they are, they seem to be mating

Notes:

Stilt bugs have long, slender legs, leathery front wings, and membranous hind wings. Their legs and antennae are often longer than their bodies.

What a shame you're so far away. I was reading that two new species of stilt bug had been discovered in Asia, could not see a date on the report so not sure just how long ago that was. Would have been good to i.d the exact species
Your welcome! I've actually seen these before, but in a collection. Unfortunately, it's a bit out of the way or I'd drop in and see if I could find the exact species.
Wow! This is a pair of mating stilt bugs (Berytidae). Great spotting!
