Field Notes

Description:

This sighting of a Storm's Stork was a big surprise all the more after knowing its listed as Endangered under the IUCN Red List.

Their numbers are very small (estimated in the range of 260-330), fragmented population which is very rapidly declining, owing to destruction of lowland forest through logging, dam construction and conversion to oil-palm plantations.

Thanks, @Maria for correcting the spelling of the name and for your kind comments :) Thanks too, @Leuba and Mark for your kind words and support :)
Great that you got a few shots of this endangered species, Albert. (I corrected the spelling for you!)
Thanks for sharing this with us Albert. I hope they go well...
Should this really be a stork not a stock Albert? ;-)
Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!
