Description:

Large, hairy spider. 8 closely grouped eyes, the large, middle pair are circular with 3 eyes on either side. Each leg has 2 claws at the tip and a tuft of hair underneath.

Habitat:

Spotted at dusk on retaining wall beside a rock garden with flowering plants that attract many insects.

So I'm curious if you watched it for a while. Does it just grab an insect, or does it throw a web around it or what? such a big critter seems like it would need a lot of little insects to keep it going, but maybe that's only true for warm-blooded animals.
